Children fighting serious illnesses often feel like they are alone. They do not get to see their friends as often as they would like. Most of their time is spent shuffling between hospital rooms or meeting with physicians. With so much commotion on the outside, it can be easy to forget that there is a child on the inside. Starlight makes sure that never happens.
For over 25 years, Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada has been dedicated to brightening the lives of children who live with a serious illness or life-altering injury by providing both in-hospital and out-of-hospital programs from diagnosis throughout the course of their care journey.
Starlight Canada serves children coast to coast. Our programs have been proven to distract children from their pain, help them better understand and manage their illnesses, and connect families with others facing similar challenges.
Through partnerships with healthcare facilities and communities, Starlight provides a unique blend of family-centered programs and services to improve the life and health of kids and families from hospital to home.
Starlight Comfort Kits
Our admission kits provide the essentials to make an unexpected stay with an ill child as comfortable as possible. Other Starlight kits, specially designed for babies, toddlers, adolescents and teens, provide hours of fun and distraction from pain and isolation – a critical component in the care and recovery of sick children.
Starlight Fun CentersTM
Popular with children of all ages, as well as their health care providers, our Fun Centers consist of a Nintendo Wii-U, a DVD player, a flat-screen television and includes a digital library of movies and games. An important visitor to hospitalized children, the Starlight Fun Center can be moved around a hospital so it can be used wherever it is needed most.
Cheerful themed activities or therapeutic programs designed to help distract hospitalized children from the daily realities of being in the hospital.
Fun-filled events provided for Starlight families, including ball games, holiday parties, sail days, picnics and movie premieres, that provide important time for families to relax, regroup and return home with a renewed sense of strength and hope. These events help forge valuable connections between families struggling with similar issues.
Starlight Day Brighteners
Unexpected fun outings allow sick children to create positive memories away from the hospital, treatments and therapies. These fun experiences include tickets to a concert, sporting event, museum, attractions and more.
A unique and once-in-a-lifetime experience for seriously ill children between the ages of 4 and 18, a Starlight wish helps children and families create positive childhood memories. Whether the child wishes for a custom laptop, to be a ballerina for a day or to go to Disneyworld, Starlight works with the family to make a child’s wish come true.
